Two years and over 70 environmentally-conscious enhancements later, the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, Mass. has been recognized as a Sustainable Business Leader by the Sustainable Business Association of Massachusetts. DeCordova will showcase the sustainability initiatives throughout the year and with a special Arbor Day events on Friday, April 24th.

Established in 1950 and located 20 miles west of Boston, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum is dedicated to the creation and exploration of contemporary sculpture and art. The museum offers a dynamic slate of rotating exhibitions, innovative learning opportunities, a constantly changing 30-acre landscape of large-scale, outdoor, contemporary sculpture, and site-specific installations.

Sustainability initiatives at the museum include a robust recycling process with single stream recycling bins available for staff and visitors and a complete transition to LED and energy efficient lights in the galleries, grounds, and administrative offices. To conserve energy, deCordova has made significant improvements in building insulation, weatherizing, and temperature controls. Additionally, The Café at deCordova now utilizes reusable tableware and biodegradable, recycled paper products, and the Store offers a varied range of sustainable and eco-friendly merchandise.
Arbor Day Events at deCordova

In observance of Arbor Day this Friday, April 24, deCordova will highlight its commitment to and stewardship of the landscape by partnering with the Massachusetts Arborist Association (MAA) for a day of outdoor upkeep focused on maintaining the health of the Sculpture Park’s trees. MAA donated a day of service to deCordova on Arbor Day in 1979 and deCordova is excited to welcome the organization back over 35 years later.
Over a dozen arborists, led by Certified Consulting Arborist and MAA’s former president Carl Cathcart, will donate their services pruning, planting, cultivating, and more. Programming throughout the day includes tree identification tours, a lecture with the arborists, and informational tables featuring preservation groups such as the American Chestnut Foundation.
