Summer is in full swing and many of us are enjoying all that the outdoors has to offer during this beautiful season including beach and water fun. But summer isn’t the only great time to hit the beach. Here are two super options for a fall beach getaway that boast extensive sustainability initiatives and will extend the summer season as that season transitions to fall.
Amelia Island, Florida
If you’re thinking about taking an eco-friendly fall beach getaway, then try Florida’s Amelia Island. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
Hilton Head Island is quite the popular summer destination, but what about in the fall? Orbitz considers the South Carolina beach town a top fall beach getaway destination.
Here are just a few of the top green activities you can experience while on the island.
- Hop on a bicycle and take a spin on the bike trails, which weave around 100-year-old trees.
- Relax at Hilton Head’s first green spa, Ahh Green Spa, and enjoy treatments with vegan, organic and fair trade products.
- Visit the Newhall Audubon Nature Preserve where you can explore all sorts of flora and fauna.
- Strike up a conversation, which is a rare occurrence, with an endangered loggerhead turtle, which nests exclusively on along Hilton Head’s 12 miles of beaches.

The Town of Hilton Head has a lot of sustainability initiatives and the resort areas have been well-planned to protect mature tree canopies, the natural habitat of the animals who live here, and a high quality of life for residents and visitors.
